How to Make Template For a Curved Drapery Track |
The best way to insure a drapery track which fits properly is by providing a good template with accurate measurements. Our curved drapery track systems are not toys; they are machinery. Once a system has been curved, it cannot be changed in the field. The tracks are heavy and strong aluminum material and can only be bent by the factory. These are custom systems; you are responsible for the measurements and template you provide. Slight variations from the template may in some cases be unavoidable; the factory will make every effort to make the tracks as close as possible to the template you provide. Slight variations are not considered a defect. Use heavy contractor paper for the template. This paper can be obtained on a roll at most local hardware stores. Make marks on the paper with pencil first, when you're sure about placement, you can go over the markings with a magic marker or sharpie marker.
- If your drapery track will be following the curvature of a wall, you may place the paper on the floor, and form the paper to the wall, make a dark line which indicates the position of the wall. You may need to cut and tape the paper in various places. Please keep the paper as flat as possible, avoid wrinkles and creases. You will want this to be as accurate as possible, and allow some extra paper to extend beyond the placement for ends of track.
- Next, make markings on the paper for the positions where you want the track to stop at the left and right ends. If the drapery will be center split, please mark the center. The center may or may not be true center of the track. You can determine where you want the center opening to be, depending on the actual point you determine relative to your wall or windows. For a center split, make the mark and write "center split" on the mark with an arrow going each direction showing the direction of travel for the drapery as it opens.
- If the drapery is one way draw, then please mark an arrow showing the direction for the travel of drapery when it is opening. You can write "STACK" at the right or left, where you want the fabric to stack.
- To indicate the track projection away from the wall, measure the desired distance out from your wall (usually 3" to 6") and make dots at various intervals. You can then connect the dots to show the center line for the length of the drapery track. You may have a single radius, with a continuous curve, or you may have a series of curves between straight sections. The tightest curve we can make for a pinch pleat style track has a 14" radius. (The radius is 18" for the Accordia fold track.) With this configuration, you will want to use a straight edge to draw the straight sections, then draw a gentle sweeping curve with no less than 14" radius to connect the straight sections.
- If you have a wall with several small angles, it may not be necessary to make a definite small bend at each angle. You may be able to use one large sweeping curved system. In this case, the distance of the track from the wall will vary slightly. On the straight portions of wall, the track will be slightly nearer the wall, and at the angles, the track will be slightly farther away from the wall. If you have a three sided bay, you may have a center straight section, with a straight section on each side, and two curved sections. The track will not be spliced on the curves.
- Please mark your template with which side you want the motor to be placed at. You can write the word "MOTOR" at the left end or at the right end of the track sketch. You should also indicate how you want to control the system, with a wall switch or Infrared, or Radio. Please also mark on your template if you want the carriers to be "down" relative to the template. (This is the orientation if you are making the template on the floor. If you are making the template on the ceiling, you will want to mark the template with carriers "UP".
- Please write your name and telephone number on your template.
- Please fax or e mail a sketch of a birds eye view of your curved track.
- Please indicate length of track needed, distance from end of track to end of track, and the depth of curvature.
