Always use a good sturdy, steel tape measure and try to be as accurate as possible. You are responsible for the measurements provided to us. When providing measurements for ordering, please provide the WIDTH measurement first and the HEIGHT second.
Standard roll orientation means the fabric drops off the tube near the window, away from the room. Cascade roll orientation means the fabric drops from the tube near the room.
Inside Mount Shades:
Inside Mount Shades are mounted in the recess of the window opening. Standard Deductions are about ¼" less than the actual window opening width. The height ordered is usually the same as the actual opening height. The standard margin for error is 1/8", meaning that your finished product can be within 1/8" of the size ordered and a 1/8" discrepancy is not considered a defect.
When you measure your windows as indicated below, if there is a discrepancy, please let us know how your windows measure in all three places. For windows which are out of proportion or out of square, there is no perfect solution; however, we will help you to achieve the best possible fit for your windows, relative to the measurements you provide to us.
If your windows have a very small recess or if they have various layers of trim and moldings inside the recess, please let us know; we will be happy to assist you over the phone with suggestions.
When measuring for inside mount shades, please be aware of projections you may have inside the window frame area, such as window locks or cranks. You do not want the shade to bump into any object as it travels its unrolling path.
Measuring Width:
Measure from far left to far right high up in the opening, where your brackets will be mounted. Then measure the width at the center of the window and also at the bottom. You will usually want to order the shade per the narrowest width, if you have a discrepancy.
Measuring Height:
Measure at the far left side from top to bottom of the opening, then repeat in the center and also at the far right side. You will usually want to order the height of the shade per the shortest measurement, if you have a discrepancy.
Outside Mount Shades:
When measuring for outside mount shades, you will want to add distance to the width of your window opening, so that the shade fabric will fully cover and lap over the wall at least 1.5" on each side. Depending on the system you are ordering, the hardware will need to be 1.5" to 2.5" wider than the fabric. This means the ordered width may be approximately 5.5" wider than the window opening.
You may provide us with the width you want your fabric to be and ask us to add for the distance needed for the hardware.
Please make sure that you have enough space for the brackets, without bumping into other projections or objects.
Please take into account if you have adjacent walls with crown molding.
